The "Fancy" Stuff

0826191804.jpg

I received my masters in Clinical Social Work from UT Austin in 2015 and have attended numerous and extensive trainings with a primary focus on Complex trauma, Attachment, and Interpersonal Neurobiology including EMDER training, Theraplay, and Trust based Relational Interventions.

In short- I have focused on how toxic stress, negative experiences, and difficulties in relation to and relating with the humans around us has impacted the development of our brain, what that looks like in the real world, and then a myriad of  ways  to help support, comfort, grow, and rewire the foundation of our brain , our relation to ourselves, and our relationship to others.

I love to bring in a lot of non-verbal ways of processing along side talk and  skill building. I keep an extensive collection of creative supplies, sand tray figures, sensory items, and movement tools for when words aren't enough or we can't seem to find them. So, I have made sure to take a number of trainings specifically around using art in therapy, sand tray, and other expressive modalities with various populations to make sure I provide opportunities ethically and with an understanding of the brain science underneath.

I believe its important to have different types of offerings to be inclusive of all different brain types, sensory needs, and comfort levels. I find I have especially developed a knack for working with other Neurodivergent individuals (like myself), creative types, and angry/energetic boys.

Along side private practice I help support parents and siblings of kids with big baffling behaviors in The Club and help to guide and teach Professionals of all kinds in the year long Immersion Program inside The Baffling Behavior Training Institute.

I could list more credentials and training, but you're going to get a sense of if it feels like we would be a good fit and you are ready to give it a whirl!

Also, Given my years of experience in acute psychiatric hospitals-

I am not afraid

to hear the real stories,

the real truth, the "shameful" behaviors and mistakes.

Bring it all!

Because All parts of you

are welcome here.

Fairy God Mother? Not quite...

I'm human to. I don't have a magic wand, crystal ball, or all the answers.

BUT I DO HAVE a heart to care,

ears to listen, ideas to share,

and an open mind. When I talk about the nuance and struggles of Neurodivergence- it's because I know it.

When I say, "I can't make it better

right now, but I can

sit in the suck with you,

and help hold how awful

and hopeless it feels"

I MEAN IT.  â€‹

It is within the context of  connection and a relationship that we have the greatest ability to grow.

It's not always easy and it takes curiosity with effort when you're at home and away from the office to make the greatest impact. I am only there 50 minutes once a week, but I can help build the foundation.

But it's not ALL heavy and hard.

I'm not just a therapist- I'm a cool therapist....

HAHA- Not, really, but kinda!

I'm derpy and clumsy and  forget my words,

BUT I own it!!

I couldn't hide it anyway if I tried, but what better way to connect and show you how to embrace the quirks, have fun, and build self compassion.

I will make dorky jokes, do an exaggerated role play, and use outdated slang!

But if I can show that trying

new skills and techniques,

being curious about our patterns,

and working on the big stuff

can sometimes be fun and

not always terrible-

then I am happy to use a silly voice

or find a way to work

chickens into a metaphor.

When I am not helping individuals offer compassion and care to their brains you can probably find me deep diving in one of my special interests. Lots of creative and crafty endeavors, trying to love all the animals, watching movies, on the lookout for "OH! that's a cool rock/stick/leaf", collecting sparkly things, and further exploring old world skills/knowledge to comfort my inner 100 year old lady (and just in case of a zombie apocalypse) . I missed my calling as a friendly garden gnome.
